Syahrizal Pahlevi was born in 1965 in Palembang, Indonesia. He is printmaker and founder TERAS Print Studio. He works predominantly in the medium of woodcut and mokuhanga but includes installations and performance art. He often transpored the process of printmaking directly into the public area both in and outdoor spaces as a temporary studios. His works are like as personal artist’s archives about social situation, ordinary things from everyday life and portraying people around him.
He completed his BFA in painting at Indonesian Institute of The Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, Indonesia in 1994. He took part in workshop of the Japanese woodblock print or known as mokuhanga under the Artist in Residence program at Nagasawa Art Park, Awaji Island, Japan in 2009, Artists in Residence at Vermont Studio Centre, Vermont, USA in 2011 and a short residence at Embun Gallery, Medan, Indonesia in 2012. He is recipient of Antena Project Family Grant , Yogyakarta, Indonesia (2007) and the Winner of 17th Freeman Asian Artist Fellowships, USA (2010). Since 1998 he have 12 solo exhibitions in Indonesia and once in USA. He joined many group show in Indonesia and abroad. With TERAS Print Studio, he give printmaking workshop and organized local and international printmaking event. He is director of Jogja International Miniprint Biennale (JIMB). He currently lives and works in Yogyakarta.
